It’s finally happened!
The day I’ve been dreaming about for 6 years has finally arrived…
DP has. a. new. job.
For 6 years I we’ve been putting up with an ever changing roster of stupid shifts that changed every week. But not anymore. No more 5am starts, no more 12 or 2am finishes. No more Saturdays, Sundays, Public Holdiays (including xmas day and NY!). No more “no, you can’t have the day off to look after your children while your Mrs is in hospital”..
DP has been offered a job with – wait for it – Day Shifts [cue angelic music and light shining down from the heavens] .
8:30am – 5:30pm, Monday to Friday. And we won’t be losing any money, and he has the opportunity to earn a commission on top!
You have no idea (or maybe you do) how hard it is to raise children with little routine in their lives. It will be so amazing to be able to have breakfast together, leave the house at the same time (only one trip too), coming home to have dinner together, and spend the weekends together! It’s a dream come true.
If only one good thing could happen to me this year, I would choose this.

I have a great Idea of what it’s like to raise kids with no constant routine in their lives due to my Husbands shift work. 24 hour 7 days a week rotating roster it changes every week.
However if my husband went to constant day shifts I think I would go insane as I am not use to him being here and just go on my merry way and do things how I want them. 11 years of this I think I am starting to get a pattern happening
It’s going to take some getting used to for sure lol. You do end up with a routine of sorts, well more like several routines that you apply to different shifts. I applaud you for lasting 11 years, I don’t think I could make it that far. Then again, once the kids get to a certain age, it starts to get easier, yes? Please say yes lol
Once they are in school it gets way easier and you get a whole heap of time to yourself that you become so bored. My husband has been working shift work since I meet him it’s really all I know. He would like to change jobs and be home at normal hours but I am not quite sure what I would do with him if he was home at 5:30 every night LOL it’s never happened before.
Oh yay congratulations for your family!
Now you can PLAN things, outings etc He can help kids with homework, list is endless! I feel your excitement!
