Of spiders and strange names

Published on February 17, 2012 in Blog

Ugh. I’ve been feeling deathly ill. Started off with a runny nose, temperature, cold sweats. Then I got a sore throat, and then it got worse. Woke up this morning with hardly much room for breathing, let alone eating. Got into the Doctors, amazingly enough, first thing this morning, and have got a two week course of antibiotics.

It was a bit weird in the waiting room today. First, I forgot my mobile, which meant I had no means of entertaining myself while I waited extra long past my appointment time. But then I saw a small spider, making it’s way across the floor. I thought to myself that he’d better hurry up before more people arrive and he gets squished, and found myself rooting for the little spider, willing him to get to the other side of the room. He had a few near misses, and I wondered if anyone would notice if they had stood on it anyway? Eventually, I think he might have been stood on. I wasn’t sure, he looked the same shape, but he had stopped making his way across the room.

Then, I saw an old lady dressed in a pair of black leggings with the lace around the bottom. She was wearing them as pants. Teamed with a blue polo shirt and a white quilted puffer vest. Stylin’. What creeped me out more though, was the fact her second toe was abnormally shorter than the rest of her toes. You know, the one next to the big toe, it’s usually longer than the rest.

Then there was a hippy looking chick, with a 2yo girl named Hester. She left her 2yo in the waiting room watching Dora on an ipad while she went to the bathroom. I thought, you can’t do that!? The child stayed where she was. She did call out “Mummy come back” a couple times but continued watching her iPad. Maybe I’m just paranoid about my children getting snatched or running out of the building, but I thought it would have been just as easy to take the kid in the bathroom with you. It wasn’t far away though, only a few meters.

Then there was another girl with a name that probably shouldn’t have made me laugh but it did. I think if your name is ‘Anita’ you can expect anything that follows to sound funny (I-need-a X).

I ended up spending the rest of the day (or ‘before school pickup’ at least) at my Mums, on pain killers, getting my feet electrocuted massaged with her ‘circulation booster’. So being sick isn’t all bad.

  1. I always use the foot massager when I feel sick, that really works for me:) And you’re right, if we don’t have any serious problem, a little sickness could be relaxing:)

Last week IVE been sick, too. But I didn’t enjoyed it as well. At the beginning, I felt a bit glad about to have some days to relax and do the housework which has been waiting for me since last week. But I was so sick, I just could lie in the bad, I felt so weak and weary, that I couldn’t do anything from my to-do-list.
